Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890):
Van Gogh was a Dutch painter considered to be one of the greatest Post-Impression painters. He began his career when he was 27, and in the following decade created around 900 paintings and 1100 drawings.
I wanted to do one of Van Gogh's pieces because I have loved his art for a long time. I was looking through his art and found his Sunflowers collection. I loved the way the art looked and began to create different plans on how to achieve the look I wanted.
I started my final in November with a plan to make a coil vase. Unfortunately, my vase did not turn out well, and continued to collapse. I had to start it over and I decided to make a wall pocket instead. Of course, with my luck, it ended up being way too thin. It began to crack after being in a bag, and I had to start over again. Ignoring the flaws throughout the creation, I actually really like how it turned out. It may not go through a second firing, but I am proud of the underglaze and the detail in the center of the sunflowers. Overall, I am happy with my final, even with the problems.
Cake Platter:
Plan:
- Create a slab
- Put slab on platter and add cups
- Paint white
- Fire
- Glaze picnic plaid
- Fire
- Done!
-----------------------------------
- Dislike the cup .
- Rework
- Get rid of cup in general
- Continue as usual.
- Done!
-----------------------------------

I began my final in May with the idea of doing a platter with a dish in the middle. I also knew I wanted to do the plaid coloring as that was something I wanted to try for a long time, with neatly colored squares. My platter ended up breaking, and so I designed a platter more similar to a cake platter than a dish. I am very proud of the final project, and its neat lines. Overall, the only annoyance I really feel is the fact that the foot is uneven, and not enough that it looks purposeful.
