Unit 2
Starfish:

Plan:
- Create a starfish shape
- Slump mold
- Add bumps
- Underglaze
- Fire
- Clear glaze
- Fire
- Done!
This was a project that was very hit or miss for me. I had an idea going into it, but I ultimately decided I did not like how it was turning out. It ended up naturally having an indent in the center, so I made it more purposeful by making it a candle holder. In the end, I am quite happy with the detailing of the underglaze.

Leaf Plate:

Plan:
- Create a slab
- Cut into leaf shape
- Add rim/border
- Underglaze
- Sgraffito the veins
- Fire
- Clear glaze
- Fire
- Done!
This piece simultaneously turned out better and worse than I expected. I really like the organic shape of the leaf, but to be honest, it reminds me more of a lemon. I also like the veins, as they give it the idea of being alive. My main mistake was the white border that I tried to make drip. The drip didn't turn out very well, and I regret using white. If I were to redo this piece, I think I would scrap the drips or add a different form of sgraffito.

Paint Palette:

Plan:
- Role out slab
- Cut out circle/oval shape
- Add the divets for paint and hole for finger
- Create a mini water cup
- Underglaze
- Fire
- Clear glaze
- Fire
- Done!

I am extremely happy with how this turned out, especially given it was my first one. I love the simplistic design of the underglaze and the ridges I included on the water cup. My main complaint is just size. The palette is cute, but it is realistically unusable due to its smallness. However, I am overall very happy with this one, and it inspired me to make another one for my friend's birthday.
Elephant Mug:

Plan:
- Create a pinch pot
- Add details such as trunk, ears, feet
- Paint eyes with underglaze
- Fire
- Clear glaze inside, grey glaze on outside
- Fire
- Done!
I am more proud of this piece than I expected. I saw the idea on Pinterest, and as elephants have been one of my favorite animals since I was young, I knew I had to do it. The only thing I would change is I would paint the inside pink. Looking back, I realize I actually like the pinkness of the clear glaze before the firing and wish I had chosen a pink glaze instead.
