Plan:

- Form a shape with taped pieces of newspaper

- Wedge clay

- Put clay on shape and begin to form bust

- Continue building it up till it has a neck

- Add clay around head

- Add facial features

- Poke holes in head so it doesn't explode

I ended up scrapping this work because I did not like how it was looking and knew it was too big for me to take home. I did enjoy the process of making it but I did not want to waste the clay and fire something I would not like.

Plan:

- Wedge clay â€‹

- Use slab roller to roll a slab of clay

- Drape clay into bowl to create a slump mold

- Let dry and take off of bowl

- Underglaze for gradient, and white on top for wave look

- Fire

- Glaze lightly and clear glaze

- Fire

- Done!

I made this piece for my father because he wanted a bowl for his keys and wallet. He's also a fan of the ocean so I was looking at some modern art pieces and took main inspiration from Christine Bell. I really like the gradient of this piece and had a lot of fun painting it.

Mask:

I did not create a mask, as I had started to run out of time for this semester. Instead, I focused my efforts on projects in Unit 6 and my final.

Plan:

- Wedge clay

- Cut off a small chunk and roll it into a ball

- Shape into a curved rectangle and flatten front to turn into face, sharpen back to look like the tail

- Flatten another piece of clay with a rolling pin and cut into two wing shapes

- Attach

- Add feet and beak

- Underglaze

- Fire

- Clear glaze

- Done!

I love this piece and am very proud of it. I love the different colors and how it all comes together. This is one of my favorite (and only) small sculptures I've done that haven't been bowls and I am very proud of it!
