Unit 3:
Slab Building w/ Slump Mold
Sgraffito
&
Plan:
- Cut some clay from my wedged clay
- Roll into a ball
- Flatten the ball to put it under the slab machine
- Take rolled-out clay and put it over glass plate
- Start to underglaze
- Sgraffito

Besides the one crack that I did not underglaze, I am very happy with how it all turned out. If I were to redo it, I would smooth out the clay and have it sit out longer to make it easier to remove from the glass plate.
Slab Building w/ Darts
Plan:
- Wedge clay
- Flatten wedged clay
- Create the slab build
- Add darts to the bottom
- Create the cup form
- Add handles
- Decorate

I did not end up enjoying this piece; it was uneven at the bottom and I was not too fond of the purple color the piece had at the end. I did like the sun I added, and I want to try to redo this piece.
Coil Building
Plan:
- Cut some clay from my wedged clay
- Roll into a ball
- Make a flat circular base
- Roll out coils
- Hope they don't break
- Build all the way up
- Fire
- Glaze

I really enjoyed this process, as well as the final result. I do think I liked how the piece looked like before I glazed it, but in total, I am happy with the final result. If I was to redo this, I would make sure the top was even, as that annoys me.
Relief Carving
Plan:
- Wedge clay
- Flatten wedged clay
- Create a slab
- Use excess clay to create a sun-shape
- Dig out circles and rays
- Underglaze
- Fire
- Clear Glaze
I really liked this piece and am happy with how it turned out. The glaze shadowing went well and I enjoyed the final product. If I were to redo this, I would smoothen out the edges more and make sure the clay is even on all sides.
